HPU Announces New Hires

HIGH POINT, N.C., Aug. 5, 2019 – High Point University recently welcomed 19 new staff members. They are as follows:

Jeremy Bontrager joined the Office of Institutional Advancement at HPU as a data analyst. He ensures that the office’s database is accurate and produces timely data reports. Before coming to HPU, he was a university registrar. He also previously served as director of family ministries at Christiansburg First Church of God in Christiansburg, Virginia. He has a Bachelor of Arts in youth ministries and a Master of Science in higher education administration.

 

 

Katie Borza joined the Office of Student Life at HPU as assistant director of Greek Life. She advises the Interfraternity Council, oversees Greek Village resident life, develops social and educational programs and supports student fraternity and sorority members. She has worked in fraternity and sorority life as a graduate assistant and residence coordinator. Borza has a bachelor’s degree in human resource development and a master’s degree in educational leadership.

 

 

Hali Siegel joined the Office of Undergraduate Admissions at HPU as a university liaison. As a member of the leadership development team, she assists prospective students and families in learning more about High Point University. She also represents how HPU transforms students into future leaders. As an HPU graduate, Siegel earned her bachelor’s degree in strategic communication with a minor in sales and is completing a master’s degree in strategic communication in the Nido R. Qubein School of Communication.

 

Jasmyn Gillespie joined the Office of Undergraduate Admissions at HPU as a university liaison. As a member of the leadership development team, she provides prospective students and families the value of an HPU education. She also represents how HPU transforms students into future leaders. Gillespie is a 2019 graduate of HPU. As a student, she was a member of the women’s track and field team, president of the Diversity Club and a member of the Black Cultural Awareness club, Black Student Union and Operation Smile. She was also a Leadership Fellow. She has a bachelor’s degree in biology with a minor in psychology from HPU.

 

 

Lyndsey Clos joined the Office of Undergraduate Admissions at HPU as a university liaison. As a member of the leadership development team, she guides prospective students and families in learning more about the university. She also represents how HPU transforms students into future leaders. Clos, a 2019 graduate of HPU, has experience in serving and representing the university. She was student body president for 2018-2019 and worked in both Residence Life and Admissions as a student. She has a bachelor’s degree in political science with minors in English and philosophy from HPU.

 

 

Caroline Pierle joined the Office of Undergraduate Admissions at HPU as a university liaison. As a member of the leadership development team, she assists prospective students and families who are visiting HPU to learn more about the university. She also represents how HPU transforms students into future leaders. Pierle is a recent graduate of HPU. As a student she was an office assistant with the Office of Student Life and a facility manager with Campus Engagement. She also had an internship with the U.S. Probation Office. She has a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice and a minor in psychology.

 

 

Kathryn Mayes joined the Office of Institutional Advancement at HPU as a young alumni engagement officer. She encourages alumni to stay connected and involved with the university after graduating through giving, special events and professional networking. As a recent HPU graduate, Mayes was a student assistant in the office for the past two years. She has a bachelor’s degree in communication with a focus in event management from HPU.

 

 

Rebekah Hatherly joined the Office of Institutional Advancement at HPU as a young alumni and student engagement coordinator. She engages current students in giving back to the university and connecting them with groups such as the Student Alumni Council. She also works with the Young Alumni Council, an advisory board of alumni who have graduated within the past 10 years. Hatherly is a recent HPU graduate who assisted in the Institutional Advancement office as a student. She has a bachelor’s degree in event management from HPU.

 

Shaunita Faucette joined the Office of Human Resources at HPU as an HR business partner. She works with the hiring process, serving as a liaison for new staff. This includes working with managers to hire candidates and communicating new employee information to departments. She has previously worked as a human resources assistant and recruiter. She has a bachelor’s degree in business education and information technology.

 

 

Deena Brancel joined the Office of Communications at HPU as a creative communications coordinator. She manages the opening and closing of design projects and accounting for the printing and production of university publications. She also maintains the fulfillment and inventory of branded items requested through the office. Brancel most recently worked as a scholarship coordinator. She also has more than 20 years of promotional and marketing experience in radio and television.

 

Tiffany Bryant joined the Office of Academic Services at HPU as a learning excellence specialist. She supports students with individualized coaching and life skills. She has worked in the education field for 19 years as a former high school teacher, college recruiter and advisor and most recently served as the director of Sylvan Learning Center in High Point. She has a bachelor’s degree in health and physical education and a master’s degree in education.

 

 

Kaitlyn Thruston joined the Office of Academic Services at HPU as a learning excellence specialist. She meets with students on a weekly basis to help them create and implement individualized learning action plans. She has previously worked in higher education as a success coach. She has a bachelor’s degree in communication studies and a master’s degree in college student development.

 

 

 

Jenna Hanks joined the Office of Institutional Advancement at HPU as the coordinator of gratitude and stewardship. She manages the stewardship and recognition process for giving opportunities across campus, and works on stewardship and recognition for the Sterling Society, Magnolia Tree and Brick Campaigns. Hanks has previous experience in higher education working with scholarships, grants and events. She has a bachelor’s degree in natural resources with a concentration in policy and administration.

 

Kaleigh Hemstock joined the Office of Student Success as a student success coach. She guides exercise science and pre-pharmacy students through their first year at HPU. Hemstock brings previous experience in higher education to her new role. She previously worked as director of alumni engagement and as a senior class advisor. She has a bachelor’s degree in English and a master’s degree in higher education administration.

 

 

 

Kaylie Scanlon joined the Office of Student Success at HPU as a student success coach. In her new role, she assists biology students as an academic advisor for first-year students and helps with the overall transition to college. Scanlon previously worked as an education coordinator where she provided programs and professional development help to kindergarten teachers, professors and researchers. She has a Bachelor of Science in kinesiology and a Master of Arts in higher education.

 

Amanda Tonkin joined the Office of Accessibility and Resources at HPU as an accessibility support specialist. In her role at HPU, she supports students with disabilities by providing them appropriate accommodations. She previously worked as a school psychologist and assisted students in grades K through 12, but primarily middle school, with disabilities through evaluation and consultation to determine the students’ needs. She has a bachelor’s in psychology, master’s in human development and an educational specialist degree in school psychology.

 

 

Leigh Barnwell joined the Office of Academic Services at HPU as a learning excellence specialist. Barnwell empowers students both personally and academically by providing individualized support. Her goal is to promote positive academic behaviors that will help students grow and be successful at HPU. She has previously worked in education as a middle school science teacher. She has a bachelor’s degree in biology, a master’s degree in education in curriculum and instruction, and a post master’s degree certification in educational leadership and school administration.

 

 

Caren Bills joined the Office of Communications at HPU as print production manager. She is responsible for the procurement of outside services with an emphasis in print production of collateral material and direct mailings. She coordinates vendor selection, production timelines and direct mail campaigns and follows each job through delivery. Bills comes to HPU with 35 years of experience in the printing industry. She has a Bachelor of Science in interior design.

Becky Probert joined the Office of Communications at HPU as a graphic designer. She designs a variety of print and digital materials for the university’s departments, special events, programs, publications and marketing. Probert has worked as a graphic designer for 18 years. She has a Bachelor of Science in graphic design.
