Internship plans: Kelly is interning as a Social Media Intern for Draper James in New York this summer. As a Social Media Intern, she will be helping them with their social media campaigns and digital marketing.
How HPU helped you get there: “My professors at HPU were extremely supportive and excellent mentors. By allowing me to start the first fashion magazine as a freshman at HPU allowed me to hit the ground running.”
Most impactful mentor at HPU: “Professor Melody Emerson, Instructor of Strategic Communication, was my most impactful mentor at HPU. She introduced me to the concept of static communication, which turned out to be incredibly valuable during my summer internship. Her teaching was both inspiring and practical, she incorporated hands-on learning through projects that closely reflected real-world office projects like a PR campaign. This approach made the material more engaging and prepared me for professional experiences outside the classroom.”
Most impactful moment at HPU: “My most impactful moment at HPU was the launch of the fashion magazine. It has been my dream since I started high school to start a make-up company and be a leader in a social media project. At HPU I have done both thus far.”
How has HPU’s inspiring environment contributed to your success? “The environment at HPU is so important for inspiring creativity, calmness and empowerment. The study rooms around campus, for example, has allowed me to stay focus and produce content and it has really contributed to my success.”
What are the life skills HPU helped you develop that prepared you for long-term success? “HPU helped me develop life skills such as leadership, creativity and presentation skills.”
What are the values and virtues HPU’s campus helped you develop that you’ll take with you after graduation? “The values and virtues HPU’s campus helped me develop are being kind to others, embracing differences and the spirit of entrepreneurship.”
Advice for underclassmen: “Don’t take no for an answer. If you ever dream, don’t let anybody tell you it’s something you can’t accomplish.”
