99% of HPU graduates are employed or continuing their education within 180 days of graduating. HPU is committed to preparing students with the tools and experience that outlast inevitable technological changes. In this series, HPU takes a deep dive into some of the students that make up that 99%.
Below, you’ll find videos of student success stories for the School of Humanities and Behavioral Sciences. These are just a glimpse of the many HPU students who have gone on to lead lives of success and significance. Each story is different, but the theme is similar: HPU students graduate ready to take on the world as it is going to be!
Law & Order: HPU
Smalley is a fighter. She was a Presidential Scholar and a Student Justice who graduated with a degree in criminal justice and minors in women and gender studies and civic responsibility and innovation. She was also a Bonner Leader. For four years, she volunteered with High Point Community Against Violence, a nonprofit better known as CAV. Through her work, she received an education in empathy. She has sat shoulder to shoulder with ex-felons and helped them with everything from building stools to reacclimatizing to their new life after prison.
Smalley came to HPU with a passion to serve. But HPU gave her passion focus. She became vice president of Phi Alpha Delta, HPU’s pre-law fraternity, and a brother in Alpha Phi Omega, HPU’s service fraternity. She also volunteered with a Baptist minister who showed her the compassionate side of law enforcement. After graduating, she received her Juris Doctorate and now works as an assistant district attorney in New York City. Watch to see her incredible journey!

From High Point to High Impact
GR Dulac found his purpose and professional edge at High Point University, where hands-on leadership, service opportunities and strong mentorship empowered him to launch a successful consulting career at Deloitte. With a foundation in Psychology and Nonprofit Leadership, GR says the life skills and values instilled at HPU prepared him to stand out in the work field.
A Born Leader
As a student, Lyndsey Clos was president of the Student Government Association, a student justice for the Office of Student Life, and much more.
Clos was heavily involved in her time on campus. She was a member of HPU’s Honors Scholar Program with a double major in political science and English with a minor in philosophy.
She saw opportunity at HPU. She came here from Vermont and following graduation, she moved to Washington D.C. to pursue a Master or Professional Studies, Legislative Affairs, at George Washington University.
She completed her graduate degree and now works for Amazon Web Services as a global lead development representative in GovTech/EdTech.

Capitol Hill Career
Zachary Charapp, ’23, studied political science with a goal to work on Capitol Hill after graduation. HPU helped him accomplish just that. Today, he is a staff assistant for North Carolina Senator Ted Budd in Washington, D.C.
Supportive professors, networking opportunities, career fairs and internships as an undergraduate helped prepare Charapp to launch his career. In fact, he earned an internship as a senior with the senator’s campaign, and that opportunity turned into his first full-time job after graduation.
There were plenty of opportunities to make best friends and get involved, too, including the Club Golf team. His HPU friends remain some of his closest friends, and Zachary returns to campus to mentor current HPU students, too.
