Research Interests

Dr. Vaughan’s research is focused in the area of nutritional biochemistry for benefit of metabolic diseases including obesity and diabetes. Specifically, Dr. Vaughan’s work examines potential dietary stimulators of PGC-1α and PPARβ/δ signaling using an in vitro model of skeletal muscle. Activation of PGC-1α and PPARβ/δ may improve skeletal muscle metabolism and reduce metabolic disease through enhanced mitochondrial biogenesis, oxidative metabolism, and glucose uptake.
