Dr. Scott MacLeod is Associate Professor of Music at High Point University, where he provides individual voice training, teaches opera and musical theatre techniques, and serves as music director for HPU opera and musical theatre productions. He received the High Point University “Innovation and Creativity in Teaching” Award in 2021.
An avid supporter of global education experiences, Dr. MacLeod has led several student performance tours in Costa Rica as part of the Centro Cultural Costarricense/Norteamericano “Promising Artists of the 21st Century” program, and was HPU faculty leader for the Prague Institute in spring 2015. He spent two summers as a guest artist/lecturer in China and was awarded an honorary faculty post at Shaoguan University (Guangdong, China) in 2017. He has taught HPU study abroad courses in Austria and the Czech Republic and is currently on faculty with the “HPU Humanities in London” Maymester program.
Dr. MacLeod maintains an active career as a singer, spanning classical and musical theatre genres. He has appeared as a soloist in a variety of national and international venues, including Opera North, Utah Festival Opera, Opera Omaha, Central City Opera, Mobile Opera, Des Moines Metro Opera, Piedmont Opera, Greensboro Opera, Opera on the James, Eastern Music Festival, Carolina Ballet, Center for Contemporary Opera, the Tucson Symphony, the Winston-Salem Symphony, the North Carolina Symphony, the National Symphony of Costa Rica, and Carnegie Hall. 2022 performances include the bass solos in Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony in Carolina Ballet’s 25th anniversary celebration, Rob Kapilow’s The Polar Express and soloist in the annual Independence Day tour with the North Carolina Symphony, and Father in Piedmont Opera’s production of Ragtime. He also received a state department grant from the U.S. Consulate in Marseille, France, to perform an ocean conservation-themed recital tour, which culminated in a performance in Monaco for Prince Albert II and invited guests; he will perform the same concert in the Washington National Gallery music series on Earth Day 2023.
In addition to his role at HPU and performing engagements, Dr. MacLeod serves as chorus master for North Carolina Opera. He holds degrees from Northwestern University, Florida State University, and the University of North Carolina at Greensboro.
