Universidad Nebrija Summer Programs

For more than 20 years, Universidad Nebrija has received students from all over the world to study at their campuses in Madrid. Each year, it welcomes more than 1,000 international students into its various programs, making every effort to integrate them into daily university life. Nebrija is a small university, just a little larger than HPU, noted for giving students individual attention.

International students can take advantage of a flexible curriculum. In many programs, students attend classes side-by-side with Spanish students in their area of specialization; design their own curriculum, taking courses of their choice within a given school; combine classes taught in English and in Spanish; or take only courses in Spanish Language and Culture to enhance their level of Spanish. International students become Nebrija students, with access to all activities and general services (such as Nebrija’s libraries, computer labs, sports and facilities) and all extra-curricular activities as well.

Located in Madrid, Universidad Nebrija has two campuses in town, in the university area, and one campus in a natural park on the outskirts of the city. It also has a center exclusively dedicated to the teaching of Spanish Language and Culture.

Top 3 Reasons to Study Here:

  1. Study at a top-ten Spanish university.
  2. Feel at home in a small university with around 5,000 students and a student-teacher ratio of 15:1.
  3. Immerse yourself in Spanish language and culture in the bustling capital city of Madrid.

Academic Program

Universidad Nebrija offers intensive credit-bearing summer programs for international students during the months of June and July. Students may choose to participate either or both months in the Hispanic Studies Program, focused on Spanish language and culture (available at any level of Spanish), or the Spanish Plus Program, allowing students to combine Spanish language learning with courses in other disciplines taught in English, such as International Management, European Studies, or Art in Spain.

Students take two courses per month, yielding a total of 12 ECTS in June or July (24 ECTS if students take both sessions). Upon successful course completion, students will receive a transcript with their academic results. A Spanish language placement test is given on the first day of the program, along with an orientation session, to facilitate students’ rapid integration into life at Nebrija and in Madrid.

Classroom time is complemented with a variety of cultural and extracurricular activities available to students through the academic program in some cases, or for an additional fee in others.

Credit Transfer

For High Point University to recognize the credits you complete abroad, you must earn at least a grade equivalent to a C in the U.S. HPU will not accept credit for courses with grades of C– or below. Grades for all courses earned abroad are recorded on the international transcript. Credits are received by HPU as transfer credits, which means the credit is received but the grade is not. Your HPU grade point average will not be impacted positively or negatively by your study abroad courses.

Housing & Meals

The University offers students accommodation in Spanish host families during the corresponding program (one day before the program begins through one day after it ends). Students choose between half-board or full board. Half board includes two meals: breakfast, and lunch or dinner. Full board includes three meals a day: breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

In some cases, housing in a university residence hall may be requested; please contact Universidad Nebrija for availability. Students may also find their own independent housing in a shared flat if so desired.

Each one of programs includes the possibility of activities in which our professors accompany their students to monuments, interesting sites, and iconic neighborhoods in Madrid. Here are a few examples:

  • Guided walks through the historic center and other important parts of Madrid
