USIL Summer Program

About the Universidad San Ignacio de Loyola

Universidad San Ignacio de Loyola (USIL) was founded in 1995 as the first university created and approved by the National Council for the Authorization of University Operations (CONAFU), with the objective of shaping competitive, entrepreneurial leaders capable of dealing with the challenges of today´s world and doing business in Peru and throughout the world. The university is built on four institutional pillars: Entrepreneurship, Development, Social Responsibility, and Globalization. Its educational model ensures students’ academic development, with a demanding bilingual education and a background in business management.

USIL offers 39 undergraduate programs and has four campuses, three of which are located in the city of Lima, Peru. All campuses are equipped with modern infrastructure, facilities, and equipment to provide an optimal learning environment.

The school’s setting, Peru, has it all: from the beaches of the Pacific coast, to the highlands of the Andes Mountains, and the tropics of the Amazon Jungle. Boasting the largest number of exports in South America, Peru also has one of the fastest growing economies in the world. Although best known for the breathtaking marvels of Machu Picchu, and the world renowned cuisine in Lima, Peru is thoroughly steeped in culture, nature, history, and adventure.

Academic Program

In the city of Cuzco, international students take courses at our International Extension Center and live at our university residence, La Casa Don Ignacio. Students can take a number of courses, some of which are taught in English and others in Spanish. For example, there are courses related to the history of the Incas, the contemporary culture of our country and South America, techniques for taking photos in the top tourist destination among South American cities, among other subjects. Students are required to take a Spanish test to determine whether their level is beginner, intermediate or advanced.

Detailed information about the summer school program can be found on the program website.

Credit Transfer

For High Point University to recognize the credits you complete abroad, you must earn at least a grade equivalent to a C in the U.S. HPU will not accept credit for courses with grades of C– or below. Grades for all courses earned abroad are recorded on the international transcript. Credits are received by HPU as transfer credits which means the credit is received but the grade is not. Your HPU grade point average will not be impacted positively or negatively by your study abroad courses.

Housing & Meals

Students may choose to stay at USIL’s university residence Casa Don Ignacio, which offers Wi-Fi, kitchen, TV room, laundry service and other facilities. Visit for more information.

Another housing option is family stay, which offers an excellent opportunity for cultural immersion and a way to learn at firsthand about local customs, traditions and lifestyle. You will be living with a
friendly host family, accustomed to receiving foreign visitors, who will provide you with three meals a day and the chance to practice your Spanish beyond the classroom.

Student Experience

USIL believes in a Hands-on component to their instruction, incorporating field trips and academic excursions into their program.

In addition to the exciting classes and Cultural Center, students will be able to take part in research opportunities, volunteer and service learning projects, or other activities such as salsa lessons, cooking lessons, and participation in local festivals.

Fees may vary based on courses and accommodations. Contact USIL for exact pricing structures.
