For 50 consecutive years, High Point University has brought the wider High Point faith community together for the Annual Prayer Breakfast. Each year, the annual event includes an inspiring message and special music provided by the HPU Chapel Choir directed by Dr. Marc Foster, Chair of the Department of Music. A silent prayer is held in memory of alumni, members of the university family and the community, as well as other friends who have passed away during the past year.

This year’s message will be provided by Bishop Gregory V. Palmer, episcopal leader of the Ohio West Area of The United Methodist Church.

Bishop Palmer received his undergraduate degree from George Washington University in Washington, D.C., and the Master of Divinity degree from Duke University Divinity School, Durham, North Carolina. Baldwin-Wallace College, Iowa Wesleyan College, Simpson College, Hood Theological Seminary and Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary and United Theological Seminary have awarded him honorary degrees.

He was ordained a deacon and elected a probationary member in the Eastern Pennsylvania Annual Conference in 1977. In 1981, he was elected into full membership and ordained an elder in the East Ohio Annual Conference.

His pastoral career includes student pastorates in North Carolina and post-seminary appointments in the East Ohio Conference in Cleveland, Canton and Berea. Palmer also served as superintendent of the Youngstown District of the East Ohio Conference.

Parking and shuttle service will be available in the new parking lot located at 1315 North University Parkway, High Point, NC 27262 beginning at 7:30 a.m. Handicap accessible vans will be available from the parking lot to transport guests to the Nido and Mariana Qubein Arena and Conference Center.
