Testing on campus is handled by Novant, HPU’s official health care provider. If a physician determines a student should be tested for COVID-19, the student will be immediately isolated in a safe area. The university will arrange meal delivery for the student, provide appropriate health care and support, notify Campus Enhancement to dispatch cleaning in areas the student has been, notify academic services, submit a CARE-COVID-19 Incident Report and conduct contact tracing efforts to inform others of potential exposure.
The senior staff of the Office of Student Life have received contact tracing training and have implemented processes for contact tracing protocols. If a student is tested for COVID-19, the university will work with them to immediately begin isolation and contact tracing steps. Individuals who were in close contact with a positive case of COVID-19 (defined as 48 hours prior to the onset of symptoms in which they were not social distancing for more than 15 minutes) will be moved to a quarantine area to self-monitor for 14 days. Students will remain in quarantine the entire 14 days regardless if they receive a negative COVID-19 test during that time.
Quarantine Plans and Policies:
To mitigate the spread of COVID-19, any individual tested will be moved into an isolation room until the test results are confirmed.
If a fully vaccinated person who is identified as a close contact has no signs or symptoms and can show proof of being fully vaccinated, they do not have to quarantine.
Also, per the CDC website the following is recommended: If you’ve had close contact with someone who has COVID-19, you should get tested 5-7 days after your exposure, even if you don’t have symptoms. You should also wear a mask indoors in public for 14 days following exposure or until your test result is negative. You should isolate for 10 days if your test result is positive.
If the test results are positive, the individual will be moved into a quarantine location and must remain there until both of the below qualifications have been met:

Hotel Inventory and Dining Delivery Process:
A portfolio of nearly a dozen hotels were strategically selected to serve as quarantine and isolation accommodations for students either diagnosed with coronavirus or identified as close contacts. HPU security and HPU health care employees were on-site addressing student needs at each of the hotel properties as needed. Students had phone access to contact HPU personnel should they need any type of assistance.
More than 50 HPU faculty and staff volunteers provided nearly 300 hours per week, supported HPU’s food service provider, Harvest Table, by delivering packaged meals to on and off campus quarantine locations. The volunteer team also delivered packages and other personal items to students in quarantine. Deliveries were made two times daily, seven days a week. Quarantined students placed their daily food order using an online order form managed by Harvest Table.

We value keeping you informed while balancing the privacy of HPU family members and adhering to guidelines outlined in the federal Family Education Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA). The university will update the above count daily on Monday through Friday. The case count includes active, positive results of students, faculty and staff reported to the university who were on campus during the infectious time period (48 hours prior to the onset of symptoms). The university will not publicly disclose the names of those who test positive or other information about positive cases. The Office of Student Life will work closely with each student who may test positive to begin HPU’s Contact Tracing Policy and Quarantine Plans and Policies, as outlined above. If anyone on campus is found to have come into close contact with a person who tests positive, they will be contacted directly by the Office of Student Life. The parents of students who come into close contact with a positive case will also be notified.
