I chose High Point University because of its prestigious reputation and the supportive community I had heard so much about from close friends who had pursued their graduate and doctoral degrees there. They spoke highly of the culture, mentorship, and academic excellence, which stood out to me during my application process. I knew right away that HPU\u2014and specifically the MHA program\u2014was the perfect fit. Not only does the program offer the flexibility I need as a working professional, but it also provides an incredible level of support from leaders like Dr. Goodspeed, our program director, Kelli Williams, our education liaison, and all of the faculty and staff who consistently go above and beyond. Pursuing a master\u2019s degree was the natural next step in my career, especially as I prepare to earn my Juris Doctorate. I knew that combining education with hands-on experience would accelerate my growth and set the foundation for my long-term goals. The program allows me to grow both personally and professionally, applying what I learn in real-time to influence meaningful change in the healthcare system.<\/p>\n
My MHA is already impacting my day-to-day work in healthcare operations, helping me better connect the dots between policy, leadership, and patient care. It\u2019s equipping me with the tools to address complex challenges\u2014from technology and compliance to communication and strategy. As I move forward in my career, this degree will continue to serve as a robust foundation, especially as I transition into health law and advocate for underserved populations. My ultimate goal is to create a safer, more equitable, and patient-centered healthcare system\u2014and this MHA is helping me build the knowledge and confidence to get there.<\/p>\n
I was honored to be chosen by Dr. Goodspeed and Kelli Williams to represent our MHA program as an MHA Student Representative. Although I didn\u2019t have much prior experience with student government, I saw this as a meaningful opportunity to get involved, especially since our program is 100% remote and I currently live in Dallas, TX. GSGA gave me the platform to connect with my peers, build relationships across the graduate community, and be a visible advocate for our MHA program.<\/p>\n
Being part of GSGA allowed me to advocate for other students while strengthening my leadership and communication skills\u2014skills that are essential in both healthcare and professional settings. It gave me a platform to use my voice on behalf of others and grow more confident in how I engage with peers, faculty, and leadership. GSGA also opened the door for opportunities like attending the ACHE Congress in Houston, which was a significant milestone in my graduate experience. Through their funding support, I was able to participate in the congress and gain firsthand insight into the current and future state of healthcare leadership. It was an incredibly rewarding and impactful experience that I wouldn\u2019t have had without GSGA.<\/p>\n
Even as an online student, staying connected through GSGA made a huge difference. It\u2019s easy to feel disconnected in a remote learning environment, especially when many graduate programs are based on campus. However, involvement through any opportunities at HPU helps bridge that gap. It builds community, creates opportunities, and reminds you that you\u2019re part of something greater. It enables you to stay aligned with your goals while growing both personally and professionally, regardless of your location.<\/p>\n

funding request. This includes answering the 5 W\u2019s:<\/p>\n
The process ensures that funds are distributed fairly and responsibly. I made sure to include how the conference would benefit both my education and our MHA program. Since no one from our MHA program had previously applied for funding through GSGA, I took the initiative and applied.<\/p>\n
In 2024, I had a conversation with Dr. Goodspeed about the ACHE Congress, and he encouraged me to attend in 2025 to gain real-world exposure to national-scale healthcare leadership. As a remote student, I knew how important it was to seek out meaningful experiences that would enhance my graduate journey. I\u2019d always told myself I wanted to make <\/b>the most of this degree, and GSGA had the funding\u2014it wouldn\u2019t hurt to ask, right? I knew I wouldn\u2019t be able to cover all the costs on my own, so I took a leap of faith and submitted a bill requesting support for my lodging and registration fees.<\/p>\nWhy the Conference Was Beneficial:<\/b> Takeaways:<\/b><\/h3>\n
Attending the ACHE Congress changed my entire perspective on what it means to be a healthcare leader. Being surrounded by individuals who are just as passionate about improving healthcare, developing strategies, and solving real-world challenges filled me with renewed purpose and drive. The experience reaffirmed that I\u2019m exactly where I\u2019m supposed to be. It reminded me that the impact I want to have is possible, and I\u2019m already working toward it. I gained insights into topics that wouldn’t have had the same effect if I had simply read about them. Now, I\u2019m applying the methodologies I learned not only in my professional and academic life, but also in how I move forward with passion and clarity in my mission to improve the<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
