A Note from the Program Director<\/h3>\n

What is college for?<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n

Tha<\/span>t you\u2019re on this page\u00a0<\/span>means you have some <\/span>interesting answers to this question. <\/span>F<\/span>or you, college <\/span>promises<\/span> <\/span>thought-provoking interactions, <\/span>academic<\/span> challenge<\/span>s<\/span>, <\/span>and life-changing experiences. <\/span>I<\/span>t<\/span> <\/span>means<\/span> opportunities to push yourself in <\/span>uncharted<\/span> directions, to take <\/span>bold<\/span> intellectual risks, to try out new ways of thinking and acting in the worl<\/span>d. <\/span>That<\/span> you want to be an Honors s<\/span>tudent <\/span>means you want <\/span>an education that engages your mind and body, <\/span>one <\/span>that confronts you with difficult problems and empowers you to build your own solutions.<\/span><\/p>\n

The HPU Honors Scholar Program offers an education you can embody, <\/span>one<\/span> that <\/span>responds <\/span>to your interests and passions<\/span>. We believe students should apply their <\/span>course work<\/span> to real-world issues. They should have the time and space to tinker with ideas and materials, to figure out what works and what doesn\u2019t. <\/span>They should practice reflecting on their experiences and presenting their ideas in public. <\/span><\/p>\n

So we are committed to delivering a liberal arts education that <\/span>will teach<\/span> you the knowledge and habits of mind to enrich your inner life and strengthen your problem-solving and communication skills. Our curriculum <\/span>will introduce<\/span> you <\/span>to a broad array of inquiry strategies and put you in touch with gifted teacher-scholars.<\/span> <\/span>These<\/span> <\/span>professors<\/span> will<\/span> engage you in critical <\/span>thinking<\/span>, <\/span>analytical writing, <\/span>reflective practice, and collaborative project building. And outside of class, you will encounter cultural, scholarly, and social events designed to prompt introspection and inspire creativity.<\/span><\/p>\n

Joining<\/span> the<\/span> HPU<\/span> Honors Scholar Program<\/span> is a <\/span>bold<\/span> statement <\/span>about <\/span>the purpose of college. <\/span>I invite<\/span> you to make that stat<\/span>ement and to <\/span>connect with a<\/span> dynamic<\/span>, <\/span>supportive<\/span> group of students and faculty. <\/span>You will learn what it takes <\/span>to <\/span>ask tough questions and to pursue important answers. <\/span>Yes<\/span>, your grit will be tested, your ideas debated. <\/span>You will be challenged in ways that will be both scary and exciting. <\/span>But all of that is <\/span>what you come to college for! <\/span><\/p>\n
