The Kenneth F. Kahn School of Law at High Point University was well represented at this year\u2019s Appellate Judges Education Institute (AJEI) Summit, the premier appellate judges\u2019 conference of the year.<\/p>\n

AJEI hosted its annual summit in Washington, D.C. on November 2-5, 2023. There, judges and attorneys from across the country came to obtain \u201cpractical, cutting-edge, educational programming.\u201d This year, HPU Law full-time and extended faculty members had the honor of contributing towards the exceptional programming.<\/p>\n

Dean Mark Martin is pictured with extended faculty member Judge Bernice Donald (retired from the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit) and other panelists at the AJEI Summit.<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Founding Dean and Professor of Law Mark Martin and extended faculty member Judge Bernice Donald (retired from the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit) participated in a panel regarding the Ethics of Recusal\/Disqualification for Lawyers and Judges. Other contributions at the summit from the extended faculty of HPU Law included:<\/p>\n

  • Judge Michelle Childs (U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit) conducted a fireside chat with\u00a0a U.S. Supreme Court Justice.<\/li>\n
  • Chief Judge Albert Diaz (U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit) led a breakout session on Making Non-Argument Sections of a Brief Persuasive.<\/li>\n
  • North Carolina Supreme Court Associate Justice Robert H. Edmunds, Jr. (ret.) is the President of AJEI and co-moderated a question-and-answer session with Solicitor General of the United States Elizabeth Prelogar.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    Reflecting on HPU Law\u2019s representation at the AJEI Summit, Dean Martin said:<\/p>\n

    \u201cIt was incredibly encouraging to see such participation at the summit from HPU Law extended faculty.
