Ashley Castillo, Clinical Assistant Professor of Law and Director of the Bergmann & Moore Veterans Law Clinic<\/strong><\/h5>\n

\"ashley<\/p>\n

Ashley Castillo will be High Point Law\u2019s Clinical Assistant Professor of Law and Director of the Veterans Law Clinic. She will also serve as Assistant Dean for Student Affairs.<\/p>\n

After obtaining her bachelor\u2019s degree from Ohio University in 2009, Professor Castillo attended Western Michigan University, Cooley Law, where she graduated cum laude<\/em>. While in law school, she interned for the Michigan House of Representatives and the Ingham County Circuit Court. Upon graduation in 2013, she served as a Special Assistant Commonwealth\u2019s Attorney in Virginia until joining the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs the following year as an attorney at the Board of Veterans Appeals.<\/p>\n

At the Board, Professor Castillo developed a robust proficiency in interpreting and applying complex legal principles, litigating over 1,700 appeals for VA disability benefits and presiding over 94 appeals as an Acting Veterans Law Judge. Through her extensive service at the Board, she found her passion: serving those who fought for our Country.<\/p>\n

Propelled by this passion for veterans, she has received numerous accolades for excellence in writing and productivity and was selected to mentor newly hired attorneys and Veterans Law Judges. In her faculty role at HPU Law, Professor Castillo is excited to share her love of veterans law with the next generation of lawyers.<\/p>\n

When asked about her new position at High Point Law, Professor Castillo expressed:<\/p>\n

As I step into the role of Clinical Assistant Professor and Director of the Veterans Law Clinic, I am deeply honored to have the opportunity to serve our nation\u2019s heroes in a new capacity. My journey in veterans law has been driven by a profound respect for their sacrifices and a steadfast commitment to ensuring they receive the legal representation they deserve. This position is not just a job; it\u2019s a calling to advocate for those who have bravely defended our freedoms. I am eager to lead the Veterans Law Clinic with passion and purpose, educating the next generation of legal professionals to carry on this noble mission.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Founding Dean and Professor of Law Mark Martin had this to say about Professor Castillo joining the HPU Law team:<\/p>\n

With High Point University\u2019s focus on supporting our veterans, it was tremendously important that we find the ideal person to start our veterans clinic.
