The North Carolina Supreme Court Historical Society (NCSCHS) once again hosted its Annual Dinner on Thursday, October 17, 2024. This year’s dinner continued the tradition of honoring distinguished jurists, following last year’s recognition<\/a> of former Chief Justice Mark Martin, High Point Law\u2019s Founding Dean and Professor of Law.<\/p>\n

This year\u2019s honoree was Chief Judge Linda McGee (fmr). Appointed to the Court of Appeals in 1995, Judge McGee served for nearly 26 years, becoming the longest-serving judge in the court’s history. Chief Justice McGee and former Chief Justice Martin served together on that court for several years.<\/p>\n

The NCSCHS, a non-profit organization, was founded with the express purpose of advancing knowledge about the Judicial Branch of North Carolina’s government. This prestigious event underscores the Society’s commitment to preserving and promoting the rich judicial history of our state.<\/p>\n

High Point University School of Law was proud to sponsor this esteemed event, further solidifying our commitment to honoring the pillars of North Carolina’s judicial system. Our institution was well-represented by Clinic Board Chair John Nieman, Professor Scott Gaylord, and Jurist In Residence Roberts Edmunds, along with their spouses.\u00a0Further, Gregg Schwitzgebel III, the NCSCHS President for the last four years, also serves on the High Point Law extended faculty.<\/p>\n

Reflecting on the event, former Chief Justice Martin shared these thoughts:<\/p>\n

I was delighted to see Judge Linda McGee honored by the Historical Society for her many contributions to our state\u2019s judiciary. I\u2019ll always be grateful for her tireless efforts to spearhead the NC Supreme Court\u2019s 200-year anniversary commemorative events.
