In February, a group of five High Point Law students and two law faculty members attended the Christian Legal Society Southeast (CLS) Regional Retreat in Black Mountain, North Carolina. HPU Law Professor Natt Gantt and Jurist-in-Residence, Robert H. Edmunds Jr., (frm North Carolina Supreme Court justice) spoke\u00a0<\/span>at the event.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\"Natt\"<\/p>\n

Professor Gantt, who serves as the HPU CLS chapter faculty advisor, shared on the importance of Speaking the Truth in Love as Christian law students and attorneys.\u00a0 Justice Edmunds shared personal stories and insights from Scripture to stress the value of being a lawyer who is honest and kind. Both presentations challenged attendees to integrate their Christian faith into the study and practice of law. <\/span>CLS<\/span><\/a>, a national organization of Christian judges, lawyers, and law students, holds regional retreats each year throughout the country as well as a national conference.<\/span><\/p>\n

Christa Evans, a<\/span> High Point Law 2L and the law school\u2019s chapter president, commented, \u201cThe CLS Southeast retreat was a powerful reminder of why I chose to pursue law. Speaking and receiving the truth in love is<\/span> definitely a <\/span>directive that<\/span> is needed <\/span>in this<\/span> profession, and even more so as it <\/span>is our<\/span> duty as Christians to show integrity in all that we do.”\u202f<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Daniel Liu, a High Point Law 1L who will serve as the chapter\u2019s president next year added: \u201cThe CLS regional retreat was a great time to meet and connect with Christian attorneys and Christian students from other law schools. It was a great occasion to be refreshed and grounded in our identity in Christ.”<\/span>\"Bob\"<\/p>\n

Encouraging student organizations like CLS reflects HPU Law\u2019s holistic approach to legal education in which students learn not only the <\/span>knowledge and<\/span> skills that are necessary to flourish as lawyers, but the <\/span>values that are needed as well.\u00a0 \u201cIt was a privilege to share remarks at the retreat,\u201d noted Professor Gantt, \u201cand a wonderful opportunity to join our students and Justice Edmunds at an event where attendees could engage in such meaningful conversations about how the Christian faith enriches our lives as law students and lawyers.\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
