HPU librarians partner year-round, in multiple ways, with all the groups we serve. Not surprisingly, we actively collaborate with faculty and teaching staff on many levels: teaching library instruction classes; helping with course planning and preparation; acquiring new materials for our collections in multiple formats; and working with faculty on their research.<\/p>\n

But, HPU library spaces often become an extended part of the classroom.\u00a0 This summer was no exception, when we worked with a photography class taught by Benita VanWinkle of the HPU Art Department.\u00a0 As part of the coursework, she asked her students to take photos in three library spaces: Smith, the Wanek Center Learning Commons and the School of Education Resource Center.\u00a0 The assignment was to try and capture the \u201cessence\u201d of what these HPU spaces meant to each photographer as an individual.<\/p>\n

In varying light conditions, and frequently in awkward spaces, VanWinkle\u2019s eight students have produced a remarkable range of images.\u00a0 Their lenses have captured some unusual, thoughtful and charming views, representing their interpretations of the assignment.\u00a0 The collaboration was so successful, that we recently repeated the class exercise this semester. We can\u2019t wait to see what this group comes up with!<\/p>\n
