Elements that go into approving a reasonable accommodation<\/h2>\n

Student request<\/h4>\n
    \n
  1. The student<\/u>\u00a0may contact OARS personnel who can direct them in the request process.<\/li>\n
  2. The student<\/u>\u00a0should fill out the request form.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    Appropriate documentation<\/h4>\n
      \n
    1. The student<\/u>\u00a0provides supporting documentation through the Accommodate portal upon submitting the request.<\/li>\n
    2. The documentation should be completed and signed by a licensed care provider who is familiar with the student and their\u00a0individualized physical or mental impairments<\/strong>\u00a0as they relate to the requested accommodation.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

      Interactive process meeting with student and OARS Specialist<\/h4>\n
        \n
      1. OARS will invite\u00a0the student<\/u>\u00a0for an intake meeting.<\/li>\n
      2. The purpose of the intake meeting is to participate in the \u201cintentionally fluid and individual\u201d conversation with the student to \u201clisten, question, trust, reflect, and analyze\u201d the student\u2019s unique situation to determine if there is an institutional barrier requiring an accommodation to remove it. (The Professional\u2019s Guide to Exploring and Facilitating Access<\/a>).<\/li>\n
      3. The student<\/u>\u00a0will take the lead in their self-advocacy journey with OARS. Parents may attend this meeting but are expected to be silent observers.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

        OARS Determination<\/h4>\n
          \n
        1. The OARS Accessibility Specialist and\/or Accessibility team will review the student\u2019s self-report along with all documentation and other resources as necessary to determine a reasonable accommodation decision.<\/li>\n
        2. If approved, the student\u2019s Accessibility Specialist will send an eligibility letter detailing what was approved.<\/li>\n
        3. If not approved, the requested accommodation was deemed unreasonable or a functional alteration to the course or program. The student will receive an eligibility letter explaining why the accommodation was not approved and give the student the opportunity to share additional information (if applicable).\n
            \n
          1. Each eligibility letter includes an appeal clause with a link to appeal at the student’s discretion.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n
          2. In some cases, a student may have certain accommodations approved while others are not.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
