{"id":535,"date":"2014-09-18T13:22:48","date_gmt":"2014-09-18T13:22:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.highpoint.edu\/registrar\/?page_id=535"},"modified":"2021-05-12T14:37:48","modified_gmt":"2021-05-12T14:37:48","slug":"walkers-policy-for-commencement","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.highpoint.edu\/registrar\/walkers-policy-for-commencement\/","title":{"rendered":"Walkers Policy for Commencement"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>High Point University holds a commencement ceremony at the end of each spring and fall semester.\u00a0 Students approved to graduate are strongly encouraged to participate in commencement for the conferring of the degree.<\/p>\n<p>Students who do not meet graduation requirements in May and December will be allowed to participate in commencement provided that they meet the criteria listed below:<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\">For Undergraduate students:<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Have 8 or fewer semester hours yet to complete.<\/span><\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Have at least a 2.0 cumulative grade point average.<\/span><\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\">For Master\u2019s students:<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">\u00a0Have no more than 2 units (courses, thesis components, clinical internships, etc.) remaining in their program of study.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Have at least a 3.0 cumulative grade point average.<\/span><\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u00a0For Doctoral students:<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">\u00a0Must complete ALL requirements for the degree in order to participate in commencement activities.<\/span><\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Students may also walk if they have an outstanding balance (library fee not paid, tuition payment due, etc.).\u00a0 However, diploma inserts will be withheld until balance is paid in full.<\/p>\n<p>Names of walkers and graduates will be printed in the commencement program (unless they are a late entry thus missing the printing deadline), and there will be no asterisk or special notation in the program differentiating walkers from actual graduates of the University.<\/p>\n<p>A student may participate in only one commencement ceremony. \u00a0If, after declaring an intention to walk, a student does not participate in the ceremony and fails to notify the Office of the University Registrar at least four days prior to the commencement date, that student is ineligible to participate in any subsequent commencement ceremony.<\/p>\n<p>All participants will receive only a diploma cover at the ceremony. \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Walkers will be notified that their diploma will be mailed to their permanent home address once all degree requirements have been met.<\/p>\n<p>All graduation requirements and all financial obligations must be satisfied in order to receive the diploma.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>\u00a0<\/em><\/strong><strong><em>Notes:<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><em>\u00a0<\/em><\/strong>If an Honor Council case is pending for a student, the Provost and the Office of Student Life will make the decision regarding the student\u2019s eligibility for participation in commencement.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Walkers&#8221; do not receive public or printed recognition of honors (<em>cum laude<\/em>, etc.) in the commencement program.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Last updated: February 2019<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>High Point University holds a commencement ceremony at the end of each spring and fall semester.\u00a0 Students approved to graduate are strongly encouraged to participate in commencement for the conferring&#8230;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":2754,"featured_media":0,"parent":0,"menu_order":0,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","template":"","meta":{"_acf_changed":false,"_hpuaeo_plugin_post_data":"","_hpuaeo_plugin_meta_tags":"","footnotes":"","_links_to":"","_links_to_target":""},"class_list":["post-535","page","type-page","status-publish","hentry"],"acf":[],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO Premium plugin v27.1 (Yoast SEO v27.1.1) -
