Student Rights and Responsibilities are set forth in writing in\u00a0order to give students general notice of some of their rights and\u00a0responsibilities at High Point University. Additional rights and\u00a0responsibilities are set forth in University publications \u2014 including\u00a0the Guide to Campus Life, residence hall contracts, and bulletins.\u00a0It is the student\u2019s responsibility to be aware of all University rules\u00a0and processes; students should seek advice from Student Life or\u00a0Academic Affairs if they have any questions about the purposes or\u00a0intent of University rules and processes.<\/p>\n
Students are expected to conduct themselves in a manner that is\u00a0civil and reflects openness to educational experiences. Students\u00a0have a right to expect High Point University \u201cto deliver educational\u00a0experiences that enlighten, challenge, and prepare students to lead\u00a0lives of significance in complex global communities\u201d (High Point\u00a0University mission). Additionally, students have a right to function in\u00a0their daily activities within a safe and caring campus environment.<\/p>\n
High Point University is firmly committed to principles of honor and\u00a0ethical conduct as stated in the Honor Code and in the Conduct Code\u00a0that all incoming freshman sign. By enrolling in the University, students\u00a0embrace the commitment to the Honor Code and Conduct Code as\u00a0well as to other University expectations and responsibilities. It is the\u00a0responsibility of students to act honorably in all phases of student\u00a0life and to understand student rights and responsibilities as well as\u00a0procedures and consequences when their behaviors do not conform to\u00a0University rules.<\/p>\n
High Point University is a community of learning that supports freedom of inquiry, freedom of thought, freedom from discrimination, freedom of expression, and much more. The University seeks to maintain and support an environment where students have rights; however, the following list of rights is not intended to be complete or exclusive.<\/p>\n
Expression<\/strong>: Students are able to freely examine and exchange\u00a0diverse ideas in an orderly manner inside and outside of the\u00a0classroom.<\/p>\n Association<\/strong>: Students can associate freely with other\u00a0individuals, groups of individuals and organizations for purposes\u00a0that do not infringe on the rights of others.<\/p>\n Access<\/strong>: Students with a disability have the right to request\u00a0reasonable accommodations ensuring equal access to\u00a0courses, course content, programs, services, and facilities.<\/p>\n Freedom from Discrimination<\/strong>: Students can expect\u00a0to participate fully in the University community without\u00a0discrimination as defined by federal, state or University\u00a0regulations.<\/p>\n Safe Environment<\/strong>: Students have a right to learn in a safe\u00a0campus community.<\/p>\n Discipline<\/strong>: Students can expect discipline and sanctions\u00a0for misconduct; students have a right to a hearing regarding\u00a0the misconduct.<\/p>\n High Quality Resources<\/strong>: Students have access to high\u00a0quality resources which support intellectual, emotional, and\u00a0social development.<\/p>\n Counseling<\/strong>: Students have access to mental wellness\u00a0services and programs.<\/p>\n Grievance Process<\/strong>: Students have access to established\u00a0procedures for respectfully presenting and addressing their\u00a0concerns or complaints to the University.<\/p>\n Learning Outside the Classroom<\/strong>: Students have access\u00a0to a variety of activities beyond the classroom that support\u00a0intellectual, spiritual and personal development.<\/p>\n Education<\/strong>: Students have access to extraordinary\u00a0education that includes excellent faculty, academic\u00a0technology, classrooms, libraries, and other resources\u00a0necessary for the learning process.<\/p>\n Personal Growth<\/strong>: Students live and study in an\u00a0environment that emphasizes personal growth.<\/p>\n Service to the Community<\/strong>: Students have opportunities\u00a0to provide service to the University community and beyond.<\/p>\n University Governance<\/strong>: Students participate in the\u00a0governance of the University.<\/p>\n Prompt Responses from Administration<\/strong>: Students have\u00a0the right to expect prompt and courteous responses from\u00a0the University\u2019s academic and administrative departments.<\/p>\n Academic and Administrative Policies<\/strong>: Students can\u00a0expect academic and administrative policies that support\u00a0intellectual inquiry, learning, and growth.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n High Point University students have a responsibility to uphold the University Honor Code, Conduct Code as well as other rules and processes.
