{"id":129,"date":"2013-02-01T21:16:56","date_gmt":"2013-02-02T02:16:56","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.highpoint.edu\/servicelearning\/?page_id=129"},"modified":"2025-01-10T12:14:08","modified_gmt":"2025-01-10T17:14:08","slug":"code-of-ethics","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.highpoint.edu\/servicelearning\/code-of-ethics\/","title":{"rendered":"Code of Conduct"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: left;\" align=\"center\">Students enrolled in service learning courses are provided with many opportunities to work in various capacities within communities outside of the campus.\u00a0 Along with these opportunities come the serious responsibilities of the student to community partners and the University.\u00a0 Each student must to comply with the following expectations:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Adhering to the University Honor Code adopted and endorsed by the faculty and Board of Trustees of High Point University and the Service Learning Code of Professional and Ethical Behavior.<\/li>\n<li>Maintaining regular attendance, being punctual and when engaged in service work, staying for the time scheduled.\u00a0 Only illness or true emergencies excuse an absence or tardy.\u00a0 Students are expected to notify the service site if the schedule cannot be met.<\/li>\n<li>Never engaging in any inappropriate social interaction (including, but not limited to, profane or lewd remarks, dating, etc.) with members of the community partner organization.<\/li>\n<li>Never misrepresenting one\u2019s professional qualifications.<\/li>\n<li>Conforming to the community partner\u2019s policies regarding standards of behavior.<\/li>\n<li>Safeguarding all personal and confidential information concerning community partners. <i>This includes refraining from texting and discussions on social networking websites and e-mails.<\/i> Sharing inappropriate information can do much damage to the community partner.<\/li>\n<li>Acknowledging the diverse views of community partners.\u00a0 Students should be open to being challenged to look at all sides of controversial issues and refrain from simply exerting their own personal beliefs on others.<\/li>\n<li>Following the rules of basic courtesy toward members of the community. It is especially important to refrain from making unfavorable remarks about community members.<\/li>\n<li>Dressing appropriately.\u00a0 Personal hygiene and grooming should be of the highest order.\u00a0 Provocative or sloppy dress is always unacceptable<i>.\u00a0 <\/i><\/li>\n<li>Maintaining good professional relationships.\u00a0 Always deal with community partner personnel in an open, honest, and fair way.<\/li>\n<li>Refraining from using personal cellphones, computers and other personal devices in the community partner setting unless approved by the site supervisor.<\/li>\n<li>Refraining from using social networking sites, such as Facebook and Twitter, in the community partner setting other than for instructional purposes.\u00a0 Texting and friending community partners, unless approved, are not permitted.<\/li>\n<li>Protecting the community partner\u2019s assets and ensuring their efficient use.<\/li>\n<li>Placing the community partner\u2019s duties and responsibility as a first priority and willingly accepting all reasonable duties assigned.<\/li>\n<li>Reporting to your professor any criminal prosecutions or pending criminal charges you have at the beginning of the course and any that you incur during the semester in which you are enrolled.
