{"id":224,"date":"2021-03-22T11:31:33","date_gmt":"2021-03-22T15:31:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.highpoint.edu\/title-ix\/?page_id=224"},"modified":"2026-08-10T11:19:34","modified_gmt":"2026-08-10T15:19:34","slug":"impacted-by-dating-violence-and-or-domestic-violence","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.highpoint.edu\/title-ix\/impacted-by-dating-violence-and-or-domestic-violence\/","title":{"rendered":"Impacted By Dating Violence and\/or Domestic Violence"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><strong>What is Dating or Domestic Violence?<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><strong>Dating Violence<\/strong> is violence on the basis of sex committed by a person:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>who is or has been in a social relationship of romantic or intimate nature with the complainant; and<\/li>\n<li>where the existence of such a relationship shall be determined based on the consideration of the following factors:\n<ul>\n<li>length of relationship<\/li>\n<li>type of relationship<\/li>\n<li>frequency of interaction between the persons involved in the relationship.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Domestic Violence<\/strong>\u00a0 is violence on the basis of sex committed by a current or former spouse or intimate partner of the complainant, by a person with whom the complainant shares a child in common, by a person who is cohabitating with or who has cohabitated with the complainant as a spouse or intimate partner, or by a person similarly situated to a spouse of the complainant under the domestic or family violence laws of North Carolina, or by any other person against an adult or youth complainant who is protected from that person&#8217;s acts under the domestic or family violence laws of North Carolina.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<h2><strong>Examples include but are not limited to:<\/strong><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>Slapping, punching, kicking, or choking an intimate partner.<\/li>\n<li>Threatening to physically harm a partner if they end the relationship.<\/li>\n<li>Destroying a partner&#8217;s belongings during an argument to intimidate or control them.<\/li>\n<li>Preventing a partner from leaving a room during an argument through physical force.<\/li>\n<li>Repeatedly threatening suicide or self-harm to coerce a partner into staying in the relationship.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>HPU is a community that embraces and stands for safe, healthy relationships. HPU prohibits domestic violence and dating violence as defined in the Student Guide to Campus Life. As a student, you have a right to expect that you will be treated with respect in your relationships within the HPU community. The HPU community wants to take every opportunity to educate our community regarding preventive measures regarding domestic and dating violence. If you or a student you know may be a victim,<strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/cm.maxient.com\/reportingform.php?HighPointUniv&amp;layout_id=20\">you may report such misconduct<\/a><\/strong> or file a formal complaint with the Title IX Coordinator. If there is an emergency, please call 911 or campus security at 336-841-9111.<\/p>\n<p>If you would like to report an incident of sexual assault, sexual misconduct, intimate partner violence (dating violence &amp; domestic violence), stalking, non-consensual sexual contact, or sexual harassment please complete <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/cm.maxient.com\/reportingform.php?HighPointUniv&amp;layout_id=20\">this form <\/a><\/strong>or contact the Title IX Coordinator.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2><strong>What can you do?<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><strong>If you want to report right away or speak with Confidential Resources, there are options for how you decide to move forward. <\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>What is Dating or Domestic Violence?
