{"id":245,"date":"2021-03-22T12:01:07","date_gmt":"2021-03-22T16:01:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.highpoint.edu\/title-ix\/?page_id=245"},"modified":"2026-08-10T11:23:04","modified_gmt":"2026-08-10T15:23:04","slug":"resources-for-students-impacted-by-stalking","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.highpoint.edu\/title-ix\/resources-for-students-impacted-by-stalking\/","title":{"rendered":"Resources For Students Impacted By Stalking"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><strong>What is Stalking?<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><strong>Stalking<\/strong> is engaging in a course of conduct directed at a specific person that would cause a reasonable person to:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>fear for their safety or the safety of others; or<\/li>\n<li>suffer substantial emotional distress<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Course of Conduct<\/strong> &#8211; is two or more acts including but not limited to acts in which a person directly, indirectly, or through third parties by any actions, method, device, or means follows, monitors, observes, surveils, threatens, or communicates to or about another person, or interferes with another person&#8217;s property.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Substantial emotional distress<\/strong> &#8211; is significant mental suffering or anguish that may but does not necessarily require medical or other professional treatment or counseling.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Examples include but are not limited to:<\/strong><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>Repeatedly accessing someone&#8217;s online accounts or impersonating them to monitor or interfere with their activities.<\/li>\n<li>Photographing or recording someone without consent as part of a broader pattern of unwanted surveillance.<\/li>\n<li>Contacting a person&#8217;s friends, classmates, coworkers, or family to gather information about their whereabouts or activities.<\/li>\n<li>Sending unwanted gifts or letters after being told to stop.<\/li>\n<li>Creating fake social media accounts to monitor, contact, or harass someone.<\/li>\n<li>Repeatedly following a student around campus despite being told to stop.<\/li>\n<li>Waiting outside someone&#8217;s classroom, residence hall, workplace, or other locations they frequently visit.<\/li>\n<li>Sending persistent unwanted texts, emails, direct messages, or calls after the person has asked for no further contact.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>If you would like to report an incident of sexual assault, sexual misconduct, sexual harassment, intimate partner violence, stalking, or non-consensual sexual contact, please complete <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/cm.maxient.com\/reportingform.php?HighPointUniv&amp;layout_id=20\">this form<\/a>.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2><strong>What can you do?<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><strong>If you want to report right away or speak with Confidential Resources, there are options for how you decide to move forward. <\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>What is Stalking?
