Professor Presents Teaching Linguistics Research

HIGH POINT, N.C., June 12, 2012 – Gail Clements, instructor of English at High Point University, recently presented her research on teaching linguistics at the Southeastern Conference on Linguistics in Lexington, Ky.

Clements’ presentation, “It’s Not Shakespeare: Teaching Linguistics in a Gen. Ed. Literature Course,” analyzed various linguistic strategies that she employs in the classes that she teaches at HPU, as well as ways to assess the information that students learn through a variety of experiences with English Literature.

“I received many helpful comments from other professors who teach linguistics and literature, and it was quite valuable in thinking about how the course will be structured the next time I teach it,” says Clements.

The Southeastern Conference on Linguistics is an annual conference that provides a venue for linguists to read and discuss scholarly papers.
