Professor Accepted into International Art Show

12.26.2012

High Point University Professor Benita VanWinkleHIGH POINT, N.C., Dec. 26, 2012 – Benita VanWinkle, art instructor and art education coordinator for the art department at High Point University, was recently accepted into the Black Box Gallery in Portland, Ore. for a show titled “The Poetic Landscape,” which will be on display Jan. 1-22.

VanWinkle’s photograph “Sunrise, Neighborhood Lake, Winston-Salem, N.C.” will appear in the show, which received international entries.

VanWinkle often challenges her students to see the world outside their back door and to find visual interest in things they see every day. If they can’t photograph something that seems mundane, then they don’t need to travel thousands of miles away. She decided to take her own challenge and the photograph in the show is from her own neighborhood.

“I am honored to be featured in a show with a photograph literally taken down the block from my house. I am trying to live what I teach, and this was a wonderful confirmation that there really is something to see in your own back yard.”
