Fraternity Collects 200 Pounds of Garbage Along Local Stream

HIGH POINT, N.C., Oct. 9, 2013 – High Point University’s Kappa Sigma chapter and alumni of the fraternity spent this past Fall Alumni Weekend removing more than 200 pounds of garbage from a local stream. The fraternity “adopted” the stream late last year and has since participated in a series of cleanings to restore the visual appeal of the stream on the High Point Greenway, between East Lexington Avenue and Terrell Drive.

Sophomore Nick Palmer played a key role in planning this particular stream cleaning.

“It feels great to catch up with some alumni while giving back to the community at the same time,” says Palmer. “It’s a lot of work, but it’s definitely worth it. This community has done so much for all of us; it’s only right to pay it forward.”

The organization plans to continue caring for the area with several more cleaning days planned throughout the year.
