HIGH POINT, N.C., Aug. 28, 2015 – The Phoenix Reading Series at High Point University will host “Tea with Patricia Park” in cooperation with the Bookmarks Festival of Books and Authors in Winston-Salem. The presentation will be held at 3 p.m. on Sept. 11 in the Ballroom at Plato S. Wilson School of Commerce. The event is free and open to the public; tickets are not required.
Park will be speaking about her debut book, “Re Jane,” a Korean-American retelling of Charlotte Brontë’s “Jane Eyre.” Publisher’s Weekly has called Park’s novel “a cheeky, clever homage to Jane Eyre, interwoven with touching meditations on Korean-American identity.” Park will also talk about her craft and answer questions.
HPU’s English department is sponsoring Park’s presentation at the Bookmarks Festival. The history department is also sponsoring an author at the festival, Todd Brewster, who recently published “Lincoln’s Gamble: The Tumultuous Six Months That Gave America the Emancipation Proclamation and Changed the Course of the Civil War.” Held Sept. 12 in downtown Winston-Salem, Bookmarks is the state’s largest annual festival of books and authors. More than 40 authors are participating in this year’s events.
“Numerous HPU faculty and staff members have been very actively involved in the Bookmarks programming and planning, including the festival, the year-round Authors in Schools programming, and the special author events and talks featuring the most interesting and influential writers of our day,” says Dr. Philip Mulder, HPU history professor and member of the Bookmarks Board of Directors. “These wonderful volunteers from HPU help produce one of the most significant literary arts events in the state.”
