Greek Life Donates to Boys and Girls Club and High Point Community Foundation

HIGH POINT, N.C., Oct. 22, 2015 – High Point University’s Greek Life donated over $3,500 to the High Point Community Foundation to support Backpack Beginnings and the Boys and Girls Club of Greater High Point as a part of the Greek Week Chili Cook-Off competition.

Throughout the week of Sept. 14, all of the Greek organizations on HPU’s campus raised money as a part of Greek Week. The winning teams of the Chili Cook-Off event donated the money to the local non-profit organization of their choice.

Pi Kappa Phi fraternity, Kappa Delta sorority and National Pan-Hellenic Council (NPHC) received the honor of the judge’s favorite chili dish and donated $1,724.50 to Backpack Beginnings.

“We are so thankful for the generosity of HPU Greek Life toward the many children that Backpack Beginnings serves,” says Sherri Scott, director of donor services and administration at the High Point Community Foundation. “In a country as great as ours, there is no excuse for a child to go hungry. We are grateful that they are standing up for this issue.”

HPU Chili Cook-Off 2Kappa Alpha fraternity and Phi Mu sorority were awarded the honor of the crowd’s favorite chili and donated $1,724.50 to the Boys and Girls Club.

“The donation from Phi Mu and Kappa Alpha will help purchase program supplies for one year for one of the four Boys and Girls Clubs in High Point,” says Holly Feree, vice president of development for the Boys and Girls Club. “We are very thankful to them for choosing the members of the Boys and Girls Club to benefit from their outreach.”

“High Point University’s Greek Life is very committed to giving back and helping the community,” says Anne Davey, president of Kappa Delta sorority. “It’s incredible to be a member of the Greek community and see all of the positive impact that comes from our hard work and philanthropic efforts.”
