Document Delivery (Faculty only)
Document Delivery provides for the retrieval and delivery of HPU library materials and ILL materials to the campus address designated in your ILLiad account. This service is reserved for HPU faculty.
Items available for delivery:
- Books, videos, CDs, musical scores, maps, DVDs, or other items held at one of the HPU Library locations.
- Individual journal articles from a bound or current periodical or microfiche. (Journals are generally non-circulating items, so we cannot send entire journals.) Scanned articles will be delivered electronically to your ILLiad account. You can check the status of an item by logging in to ILLiad.
Please allow at least one business day for items to be processed and delivered by Campus Mail. Requested materials will be delivered Monday through Friday during the fall and spring semesters and Monday, Wednesday, and Friday during the summer sessions.

Interlibrary Loan (ILLiad)
If the HPU Libraries do not own an item needed for your research, you may request the item from another library through Interlibrary Loan. This service is available to HPU faculty, staff, and students.
Articles can be delivered electronically to the patron in about 1-3 days. Books take a bit longer, between 1 and 3 weeks. Please keep in mind when requesting materials that these are the average turnaround times. Instructional or specialty video and audio materials, dissertations, music scores, and most other types of items can be requested.
Please note that materials (books, DVDs, etc.) borrowed through Interlibrary Loan cannot be used for reserves. Any item on reserve must either be owned by Smith Library or be the personal copy of the professor. However, articles acquired through ILL can be put on reserve.
You can make ILL requests and check their status by logging into your ILLiad account.
- How can an ILL item be renewed?
To renew an ILL item, log into your ILLiad account, click on the Transaction number of the checked out item you want to renew, and then click on “Renew Request” in red at the top of the item record. The renewal request will then be sent to the lending library. The due date in the item record will be updated when the lending library responds.
- When can a renewal be requested?
You can request a renewal within seven days before the due date if the lending library allows automatic renewals (most do). If it is before the seven day period prior to the due date, the due date itself, or any date after the due date, the system will not allow you to request a renewal. In that case, just email email@example.com. A renewal request will be sent to the lending library from the ILL office.
- What if the request is denied?
If a renewal is denied, another ILL request for the same item can be submitted through ILLiad. Keep in mind that ILL books can take between 1 and 3 weeks to arrive.
- How can I change my ILLiad password?
If you need to change your password, you can do so in your account. Log in and in the left side column, under Tools, there is a link named “Change Password”. Click this and follow the instructions on that page. Once the change is made, it is best to wait at least 5 minutes for the change to take effect.
