Tuesday, August 26 – Classes Begin!

2:00pm – 3:30pm
HPU 101

Mandatory for all new students who do not have class during this time.
This three-session course allows students to learn about important resources on campus and around town. Students are required to attend each session at a time of their choosing. Each session repeats on Wednesday, August 27.

Session 1: More than Books: Search, Discover and Create! An Introduction to HPU Library and Academic Resources
Main Floor – Smith Library and 3rd Floor R.G. Wanek Center – Learning Commons.
Attend session at either location. Sessions begin @ 2:00pm, 2:30pm, 3:00pm and 3:30pm

Session 2: Active and Engaged: Guide to HPU Recreation Services
1st Floor Slane Student Center HPUREC Desk
Sessions begin @ 2:00pm, 2:30pm, 3:00pm and 3:30pm

Session 3: Passport Partner Roadtrip
Tour departs from the R.G. Wanek Center
Session begins @ 3:30pm
Take “The Tour” around the City of High Point guided by the Campus Concierge. Your whirlwind tour will take you throughout the city, pointing out students’ favorite restaurants, shopping spots, and sites.

Mandatory for students participating in the honors program.

Peer Mentor Presentation

“Risky Business”
Hayworth Fine Arts Center
Mandatory
This session occurs multiple times during Welcome Week. Your Peer Mentor will assign you a mandatory time slot prior to the first day of classes.
The HPU Peer Mentors present a series of skits about the important issues many freshmen face. Some skits will make you laugh… others will make you think.

Party in the Park
Hayworth Park

Join your classmates for live music in Hayworth Park for a night of food and festivities. Celebrate the first day of classes in style!

Chapel Service

Installation of Rev. Davis as Minister to the University
Hayworth Chapel
In this first service Rev. Preston Davis will be installed as Minister to the University. Rev. Dr. Carole Stoneking, Dean of the College of Arts & Sciences, will provide the sermon. The Chapel Choir will be featured. Chapel services are every Wednesday at 5:30 in Hayworth Chapel when classes are in session.

6:20pm
Religious Life Expo

Immediately following the worship service, come to the fellowship hall of the Chapel to meet our choirs and learn about the University’s religious organizations, programs, and groups.

There’s something for everyone at the R.G. Wanek Center Party. Join your fellow classmates while showing off your karaoke skills in the Arcade. Make your own street signs, enjoy a movie in the cinema, release your inner artist or just go crazy with a photo of you and your friends on the graffiti wall!

Saturday, August 30

2:00pm – 5:00pm
Derby Day

Kester International Promenade
The first Saturday after the commencement of classes marks the HPU tradition known as Derby Day! Always a fun way for new students and upperclassmen to meet and mingle! Derby Day has it all… Field Day Style. All of the competitive games are held on Kester International Promenade, ranging from tug-of-war and volleyball to water slides, obstacle courses, and much, much more.
