OIT provides a free campus-wide follow-me (swipe-to-release) printing system that allows students to print anytime from anywhere. This ensures printing is confidential to the user, reduces printed waste from documents left uncollected at the printer and eliminates the need for students to bring personal printers to campus. Each multifunction printer is linked to a network print server, enabling students to print, copy or scan from a multitude of locations across campus.
• Visit service.highpoint.edu to download the print driver
• Sign in and enter Follow-Me Print in the search box for the instructions
• Print to an HPU Follow-Me Printer
• Swipe your Passport ID at any enabled printer to pick up your documents
Your instructors may use Blackboard to extend the classroom and make course content, resources, grades and multimedia available to students online. Check with your instructors to see how it will be used in your courses.
Through Blackboard, students can:
• Engage with other students
• Communicate with instructors
• Receive class announcements and updates
• Submit assignments
• Take tests
• Use Class Collaborate as online meeting space
Visit Blackboard through the Portal or at mycourses.highpoint.edu.
HPU is fully licensed to provide students with access to Microsoft 365 online and for download.
Microsoft 365 is the same Office you already know and use every day, but it is cloud-based, which means that you can access the applications (Office Suite, OneNote, etc.) and your files anywhere, at any time, using OneDrive. This also enables students to access files across devices and edit documents collaboratively in real-time.
To download and install these powerful software tools for use on your personal computers go to the portal at my.highpoint.edu, click on Microsoft 365 tab and login, and follow the instructions at the top of the page.
Student Planning is a self-service tool that helps students build an education plan for their entire college career, register for courses, review their schedule, view progress towards their program and request to meet with a faculty advisor or Student Success Coach all in one place. Visit Student Planning through the Portal or at myaccount.highpoint.edu.
HPU utilizes Duo Multifactor Authentication (MFA) for account security when users are not using our secure networks. MFA is used to verify a user’s identity at login and adds additional security steps to keep your information secure. HPU requires Duo authentication when users access Microsoft 365 applications and Workday off campus. This requires approving your login via a push notification (highly recommended) or text message on your mobile device. You can find more information about Duo at duo.highpoint.edu.
Students should be cautious of the types of content downloaded while on the web. Viruses and other malicious programs result from visiting certain websites, downloading software, plugging in portable drives and clicking on links in suspicious emails.
At High Point University, students are required to maintain an active anti-virus software to help prevent these types of unwanted attacks. You can find the link to download OIT’s recommended free personal anti-virus software on service.highpoint.edu by searching anti-virus.
Starfish is an early alert system that is accessed through Blackboard to support student academic success at High Point University. Through Starfish, faculty and university administrators can refer students to the appropriate support resource. Students have the ability to view all individuals who are in their ‘success network’ through Starfish allowing them quick and easy access to obtain the necessary support they may need. The goal of Starfish is to identify at-risk students as early as possible in the term to connect them with support in order to positively impact student success and persistence.
