Post-graduation plans: Ava will be beginning her career as a Financial Service Professional at LPL Financial in Fort Mill, South Carolina. In this role, she will serve as a first point of contact for advisors and investors, handling inbound inquiries and supporting a range of account and transaction needs. The role combines client service, problem solving and research to deliver accurate solutions while ensuring a strong client experience. Ava will collaborate with internal teams in a fast paced environment focused on delivering world class, client centered service.

How HPU helped you get there:

“High Point University helped me build a strong foundation in finance, communication and professional skills through coursework and hands on experience. My leadership roles and involvement as a Business Fellow strengthened my ability to collaborate, problem solve and lead in fast paced environments. These experiences prepared me to confidently step into a client facing role in financial services and work toward my goal of becoming a financial advisor.”

How did you use the Office of Career & Professional Development?

“I used the Office of Career & Professional Development at HPU to strengthen my resume and better highlight my finance and leadership experience. They helped me tailor my resume for full time roles and improve how I present my skills and accomplishments. This support gave me more confidence going into the job search process.”

“My most impactful mentors at HPU were my professors, who supported me both academically and professionally throughout my time there. They challenged me to think critically, apply finance concepts to real world situations and take ownership of my growth. Their guidance and encouragement helped me build confidence and prepared me for a career in financial services.”

Most impactful moment at HPU:

“One of my most impactful moments at HPU was taking on leadership roles in Alpha Gamma Delta and helping plan large scale events. It taught me how to lead, stay organized and manage pressure. It also built my confidence and prepared me for a fast paced, client focused career.”

What are the life skills HPU helped you develop that prepared you for long-term success?

“High Point University helped me build communication, leadership and teamwork skills through academics and involvement as a Business Fellow and student organizations. I also developed strong time management and problem solving abilities while balancing multiple responsibilities. These skills prepared me to stay organized, adapt quickly and succeed in fast paced professional environments.”

What are the values and virtues HPU’s campus helped you develop that you’ll take with you after graduation?

“HPU helped me develop values like integrity, accountability and professionalism through both academics and leadership roles. I also strengthened collaboration, respect for others and a strong work ethic by working with diverse teams and managing multiple responsibilities. I will carry these values forward as I build my career in financial services.”

Advice for underclassmen:

“Get involved early and take advantage of every opportunity HPU offers, especially leadership roles and career development resources. Build strong relationships with professors, mentors and peers because those connections open doors and provide guidance. Most importantly, stay consistent with your goals, gain real world experience and focus on building skills that will translate directly into your career after graduation.”
