Extraordinary Options: Available Awards
The Office of Fellowships and Awards currently supports students and alumni in applying for more than 80 scholarships, fellowships, and awards, listed below. The opportunities are divided into several categories:
Awards requiring HPU nomination*
(generally available to many or all majors and disciplines)
Awards for study abroad and/or language acquisition
Awards for undergraduate funding
Awards for graduate school funding
Teaching opportunities
(many of which, while open to Education majors/minors, do not require the Education major/minor)
STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) awards
Internship/work/public service experiences
Awards for Business/Entrepreneurship students
*Some opportunities require HPU nomination, either because institutions are limited in the number of applications they can put forward, or because the fellowship, scholarship, or grant requires stringent internal review and approval before the application can be considered for advancement. Please note that internal deadlines for HPU nomination consideration are much earlier than external deadlines, and not all applications will be recommended for advancement.
Regardless of whether or not an award requires nomination, applicants should schedule an appointment with Dr. Bauer as early as possible to discuss the award, begin drafting an application, and, where appropriate, receive feedback for improvement. Dr. Bauer is happy to assist you in preparing your application, even if your chosen opportunity does not require nomination. Students and alumni are also encouraged to meet with Dr. Bauer as early as possible–even during the first year at High Point University–to talk about possible future applications. Always keep in mind that these applications are intensive: they require significant work and revision on the part of the applicant. Applicants should plan to begin the process several months, and sometimes even a year, in advance of the internal or external deadlines.
