1. Harry Potter had Dumbledore. Drake had Lil Wayne. How important is it for you to have a mentor who could help you through the unknown process of your first year of college?

Very important – I want my first year to be a positive experience.
Somewhat important – I would appreciate learning from a mentor from time to time when I need a little help.
Not important – I don’t need to learn about important resources or opportunities in college.

2. Are you concerned about not yet knowing what you want to major in? Maybe mom or dad have been urging you to decide?

Congratulations! You’re ahead of the game since, nationally, most students end up changing their major. Your Success Coach at High Point will be based on your major and they’ll know all about that field of study. 3. Do you want to experience opportunities usually reserved for upperclassmen, such as excellent housing and research opportunities, during your first year?

Yes – I don’t want to have to wait until I’m an upperclassman to snag an excellent housing assignment, find stellar academic research opportunities or meet Apple Co-Founder and HPU Innovator in Residence Steve Wozniak.
No – I want to be seen as just a number at a big school where I’m invisible.

HPU’s probably not the right school for you. Our students are engaged in small classes and unique opportunities with mentors from their first day on campus! Thanks to these experiences, they know how to work well in teams and create impact in the world.

Freshmen are surrounded by experiences and mentors that begin shaping their future as soon as they arrive on campus. You’ll be expected to work hard, but when we admit you, we commit to your success.

4. Did you know that employers list “Life Skills” as a top qualification for candidates, and that graduate schools look for candidates who stand out from the crowd?

Yes – I am aware that employers and graduate schools want candidates who are flexible, coachable, hardworking and have the ability to work with others.
No – But I want to make sure I’m prepared to be successful after college.

Don’t worry! While most colleges don’t focus on preparing students with Life Skills, it’s our passion at HPU. You’ll learn about life skills as a freshman through The President’s Seminar where you’ll focus on preparing for life after college (not just a job) as soon as you arrive to campus.
