How HPU helped you get there:
“HPU has played a huge role in helping me get to where I am today. Between the support of my professors, the opportunities to connect with professionals and everything I’ve learned in my classes, I feel much more prepared to start my career. HPU has pushed me to step outside my comfort zone and take advantage of opportunities I might not have otherwise. I’m especially grateful for how these experiences helped me land my internship and eventually a full-time position with PNC Bank after graduation.”
Most impactful mentor at HPU:
“Two of my most impactful professors at HPU have been Thomas James, professor of the practice of finance, and Dr. Premalata Sundaram, associate professor of accounting. Dr. Sundaram encouraged me to challenge myself in accounting and taught me fundamental skills that were essential in helping me secure my position at PNC Bank. Professor James has helped strengthen my understanding of finance through his teaching and guidance. I’m grateful for the time they’ve invested in me and the impact they’ve had on my academic and professional growth.”
What life skills did HPU help you develop?:
“One of the biggest things HPU has taught me is how to be adaptable and independent. I’ve learned how to handle challenges, make decisions for myself and become more comfortable in unfamiliar situations. I’ve also learned the importance of being accountable, staying motivated and making the most of the opportunities in front of me, which I know will carry over into life after graduation.”
Most impactful moment at HPU:
“One of my most impactful experiences at HPU was having the opportunity to study abroad in Spain. Living in a different country pushed me outside my comfort zone and taught me to be more outgoing, adaptable and open to new experiences. It also taught me to never turn down an opportunity just because it feels unfamiliar or intimidating. I truly believe this experience gave me the confidence to make the decision to move from Pittsburgh to Los Angeles to begin my career with PNC Bank after graduation.”
Advice for underclassmen:
“My biggest piece of advice for underclassmen is to never say no to an opportunity, even if it pushes you outside your comfort zone. You never know what connections you’ll make or what doors an experience might open for you. Take advantage of everything HPU has to offer, build relationships with your professors and peers and don’t be afraid to try something new. Some of the best opportunities come from taking chances you never originally planned on.”
