HIGH POINT, N.C., Sept. 1, 2015 – High Point University welcomes Dr. Jordan Smith to the School of Pharmacy as assistant professor of clinical sciences. He is one of more than 40 new faculty members joining HPU this year, 21 of which are new positions.
Smith will teach a course on drug information for first-year pharmacy students. He will also coordinate a second-year lecture on infectious disease pharmacotherapy and other courses as the School of Pharmacy grows. Additionally, he hopes to expand the school’s clinical reach to area hospitals to perform in vitro research in coordination with other faculty.
“Students who graduate from our Doctor of Pharmacy program will be equipped for the many careers available to pharmacists. We have a great course of study planned and outstanding faculty assembled,” Smith says. “I am ecstatic to be part of the foundation of an excellent School of Pharmacy with novel approaches to education and research.”
Smith, who is relocating to High Point from Detroit, has expertise in novel antibiotic regimens against problem pathogens and plans to continue his research in this area at HPU.
Smith completed both a Bachelor of Science and Doctor of Pharmacy at the University of Michigan. After graduating, he completed a postgraduate clinical residency at Moses Cone Hospital in Greensboro and a fellowship studying the pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics of antibiotics against resistant pathogens at Wayne State University.
