The astronomy lab provides students and professors the ability to remotely work with telescopes in Chile, photograph galaxies and discover new stars. HPU is a primary member of the SMARTS Telescope Consortium, a network of U.S. universities, including Yale, Georgia State University and others, that maintains and operates four research-grade telescopes on Cerro Tololo in Chile. Recently, students assisted Dr. Brad Barlow, assistant professor of astrophysics and Culp Planetarium director, in discovering eight new pulsating stars.
