HPU Receives Gift From Pauline Lewis Hayworth Estate

HIGH POINT, N.C., April 27, 2009 – High Point University has received the final distribution from the Estate of Pauline Lewis Hayworth, in the amount of $900,000. When this is combined with earlier contributions from her and her husband, Charles Hayworth Jr., the university has received more than $9 million from the couple.
Pauline Lewis Hayworth, a native of Pinehurst, N.C., devoted herself to many causes, especially those related to fine arts and higher education.
In addition, Hayworth was the philanthropist who made HPU’s Hayworth Fine Arts Center possible. At that time, according to Hayworth, “The Hayworth Fine Arts Center continues a long labor of love by my late husband and me, who, though not alumni, have loved High Point University with a passion. My husband, Charles, made the initial gift, and I felt very strongly that he wanted me to go another step. His father helped establish High Point College and his brother, David, has been a major supporter, too.” As a result of her commitment and zeal for the fine arts, the main performance hall of the Fine Arts Center was named The Pauline Theatre.
