HPU Students Receive Academic, Student Life Awards On Honors Day

HIGH POINT, N.C., April 23, 2009 – Several High Point University students received awards and accolades during the annual Honors Day program and the University Awards ceremony, held at HPU on April 22. The Honors Day program honored students who seek not only excellence in the classroom, but also on the athletic field and in positions of leadership across campus. Students who received awards are actively involved in Greek organizations, service organizations, intramural activities, special-interest groups, honor societies and more. During the Student Life Awards ceremony, awards included the University Award for Leadership, presented to W. Dan Costello (senior from Webster, N.Y.); University Award for Achievement, awarded to Joshua Fox (senior from Boone, N.C.); University Award for Service, presented to Kerry A. Quinn (senior from Chesapeake, Va.); and University Award for Citizenship, given to Jennifer Hastings (senior from Lewis Center, Ohio). During the Academic Awards Ceremony, recognition was given for students? academic achievements. Students who received All University Honors include: Matthew Boswell, Joshua Fox, Melaney Hodge, Shauna Marsh, Kayla McKenzie, Meagan Newman, Damon Smith, Whitney Special, Sarah Wood and McCall Zupon. Students who were inducted into the Order of the Lighted Lamp for 2009 include: Paul B. Abell, Emily K. Adkins, Mary A. Ausborne, Elyse N. Berrier, Jessica R. Bookbinder, KiYonna L. Brown, Michael W. Earman, Tamas Kovacs, Shauna A. Marsh, Lauren M. McGraw, Aubrey C. Middleton, Michael A. Nuckles II, Pamela A. Shirling and Leah M. Wilson. Current (2008) members are: Matthew Boswell, Kali H. Burt, Joshua Fox and Kerry A. Quinn. The Order of the Lighted Lamp is the oldest honor society at High Point University. Since 1935, the Order has chosen to induct a select number of students based on scholarship, leadership, character and overall service to the university. Candidates for membership are nominated by members of the society who are currently enrolled.
