HIGH POINT, N.C., May 11, 2009 – High Point University’s Student Government Association ended the 2008-09 academic year by giving back to the local community – it held a food drive in conjunction with the United Way’s “Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive” and a furniture donation project in conjunction with the Salvation Army. The drives, held May 4-7 on campus, were sponsored by SGA and the HPU Office of Student Life.
HPU students were able to donate nonperishable food items, furniture, electronics and clothing. Items were collected in residence hall lobbies and the Office of Student Life in the Slane Student Center.
“We are very fortunate to have student leaders who never seem to forget those who are in need ? they continually seek opportunities to help those who are less fortunate,” says Gail Tuttle, HPU vice president for student life. “It’s all about the values that we teach our students in and out of the classrooms, and they continue to model this behavior throughout their time on our campus.”
HPU even got a special visit from Bobby Smith, the president of United Way of High Point, on May 8, when he came by campus to gather a number of the donated items.
