HPU Rising Senior Works With Senior Citizens While Interning In Virginia

HIGH POINT, N.C., July 10, 2009 – David Kaplan, a rising senior majoring in recreation management at High Point University, recently had many eye-opening experiences while interning with the Fairfax County Government in the Department of Community and Recreation Services in Virginia.

Kaplan, who worked with the senior services division, took part in multiple projects during his time there.

“Throughout the duration of my internship, I did such things as attend meetings about budgets and security, and advisory council meetings,” Kaplan says. “Whether it was helping out with the congregate meal program that Fairfax County’s Senior Services has or other daily operations, I did a little bit of everything.”

He says he also created and taught a “Nintendo Wii Sports Class” to senior citizens during his internship.

“I really feel like I got a lot out of this internship. My supervisors were spectacular and went above and beyond to help my internship be a success,” Kaplan says. “This internship opened up my eyes ? and allowed me to see the importance of senior services.”
