HIGH POINT, N.C., July 22, 2009 – Incoming High Point University freshman Sierra Carr has a lot to be thankful for thanks to her participation in the Big Brothers Big Sisters program.
Carr, a native of Garfield Heights, Ohio, has been a part of the Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Cleveland since she was just 9 years old. When she walked across the stage on June 3, 2009, to receive her high school diploma, she reflected on her experience in the program and how thankful she is for the relationship she has with her Big Sister, Tonya Peterson.
“God placed Tonya in my life for a reason; it is because of Tonya’s influence, encouragement and mentoring that I was able to … receive my diploma,” Carr says.
Even though Carr will soon start her first year at HPU, the bond between the two women is still strong.
“The bond between two sisters cannot be easily broken and will last forever,” Peterson says.
Carr, who will be the first in her family to go to college, plans to major in pre-med and has aspirations of becoming an anesthesiologist.
