HPU Assistant Professor Of Information Systems Publishes Paper

HIGH POINT, Aug. 27, 2009 – Dr. Bryan Hertweck, assistant professor of information systems at High Point University, recently published a paper in the “International Journal of Electronic Business 2009.”

The article, titled “The Effects of Comparison Shopping Behaviour on Dynamic Pricing Strategy Selection in an Agent-enabled E-Market,” detailed software agents, known as shopbots, that are used by e-buyers to help collect and display market data, make buying decisions and execute sales transactions.

“E-sellers use pricebots to adjust prices based on market data and stored algorithms,” Hertweck says. “We constructed a simulator in which both buyers and sellers used agents. Specifically, we varied levels of comparison-shopping, as represented by the extent of shopbot usage, and studied the impact on the optimal selection of dynamic pricing strategies by sellers’ pricebots. Results indicated that shopbot use and pricing strategy, their interaction, and the presence of a dominant seller significantly affected optimal pricing strategy.”
