HPU Chair Of Marketing, Home Furnishings And Design Publishes Article

HIGH POINT, N.C., Aug. 20, 2009 ? Dr. Richard Parker, chair of the Department of Marketing, Home Furnishings and Design at High Point University, recently published an article in the “Academy of Educational Leadership Journal.”

The article, titled “Watch This Clip: Using Film as an Augmentation to Lecture and Class Discussion,” details his research with students in the classroom.

“My initial research shows that students find that watching film clips makes some of the more difficult material easier to understand,” Parker explains. “I use scenes from popular movies such as ?Crimson Tide,? ?Wall Street? and ?12 Angry Men? to illustrate points from my lectures and to help clarify difficult or confusing course material with which the students may not be familiar. … This research is by no means conclusive, and I hope that it will serve as a starting point for other academics to do follow-on research.”
