HIGH POINT, N.C., Aug. 21, 2009 – David Walker, associate professor and director of the Master of Arts Nonprofit Management Program at High Point University, recently attended an international conference on ?Social Capital and Community Resilience.”
The conference, held in June near Glasgow, Scotland, focused on the role of social capital in community problem solving, resilience and collective well being.
Walker, who was one of three professionals representing academic institutions in the United States, notes that a number of national and international case studies were presented to illustrate the value of social capital in today?s society.
“For me, the conference was a valuable experience in learning how the concept of social capital can be applied to voluntarism, management and governance in nonprofit and nongovernmental organizations in the U.S. and around the world,” Walker says.
