HIGH POINT, N.C., Aug. 28, 2009 – High Point University hosted North Carolina State Treasurer Janet Cowell today for a luncheon and roundtable discussion with 10 HPU students.
During her visit to campus, she discussed management of debt, including credit card issues, and affordability issues with students at a special luncheon, discussing not only debt issues that face students in North Carolina, but also their own personal stories and experiences with paying for their education. She also received suggestions on statewide initiatives she can pursue to make that aspect of life easier for them.
Cowell also showed a Generation Engage documentary on debt for students.
“High Point University was thrilled to have State Treasurer Janet Cowell visit campus,” says Don Scarborough, vice president for community relations at HPU. “I believe the students learned a great deal from her informative discussion. Our students also had the chance to voice their own opinions and suggestions regarding their own personal debt issues, and Ms. Cowell was able to provide helpful information in return.”
Scarborough adds, “HPU is very committed to assisting students as they explore avenues for financing their education. We appreciate the state treasurer’s dedication to helping students, as well.”
