HIGH POINT, N.C., Sept. 1, 2009 – Dr. Gerald Fox, associate professor of economics at High Point University, recently submitted an article that was accepted for publication in the “Journal of Conflict Resolution.”
The article, titled “Partisan Divide on War and the Economy: Presidential Approval of G. W. Bush,” will appear in the December 2009 issue of the prestigious journal, which is ranked No. 2 in international relations and No. 5 in political science.
Fox’s article examines the influence of Sept. 11, the Iraq War and the economy on Bush job approval across partisan affiliations and aggregate popularity. His article is based on an earlier paper, which was presented at the Academy of Economics and Finance Annual Meeting, held in February 2009.
“Among the main findings, a large partisan gap occurs for war and the economy on Bush popularity,” Fox says. “Sept. 11 and the Iraq War affect Democratic opinions of Bush more than Republican opinions, while the economy affects Republican opinions of Bush more than Democrats.”
