HIGH POINT, N.C., Nov. 30, 2009 ? High Point University students, faculty and staff now have the opportunity to view fine art in yet another area of campus ? at the University Center ? with the addition of a renowned art collection donated by HPU alumnus Darrell Sechrest.
The collection includes fine examples of 18th- and 19th-century British art with paintings by such notables as Sir Joshua Reynolds, Thomas Gainsborough and Angelica Kauffman.
The collection also features a series of French lithographs of architectural details and floor plans from the Chartres and De Noyen Cathedrals. The exquisite examples of engravings are between 75 and 125 years old.
The collection is on display in the President’s Club and Learning Commons, located on the top floor of the University Center.
Sechrest’s colorful collection of Haitian art is on display in the Group Study area of the University Center.
“High Point University students are fortunate to be exposed to such superlative examples of fine art on a daily basis,” says Maxine Campbell, curator of the Sechrest Gallery at HPU.
