Dr. Gerald Voorhees, assistant professor of games and interactive media at High Point University, recently published an article in the journal ?Game Studies: The International Journal of Computer Games Research? ? an online journal and the oldest journal dedicated to the study of digital games.
His article, titled “The Character of Difference: Procedurality, Rhetoric and Roleplaying Games,” analyzes the popular digital role-playing game series “Final Fantasy.”
“It shows how players can learn about multiculturalism and other strategies for dealing with cultural difference through game play,” Voorhees says. “It also demonstrates that, in a suitable context, games designed for entertainment can serve serious educational and social purposes.”
