HPU Chronicle Staff Attends National College Media Convention In Texas

HIGH POINT, N.C., Nov. 11, 2009 ? Members of the Campus Chronicle staff at High Point University recently attended the National College Media Convention, held at the Austin Convention Center in Austin, Texas.

Those who went included Mike Nuckles, editor-in-chief; Allison Hogshead, assistant editor; Matt Wells, organizations editor; Samantha Tuthill, online editor; and Katie Nelson, opinion editor.

While there, the group attended dozens of sessions that covered a variety of journalistic subjects, such as features, front page design, staff recruitment, online resources and how to redesign a newspaper.

“In response to what we learned at the convention, we are making changes to every department of the newspaper staff, including having much better photography coverage and having more focus on the students rather than just events,” Nuckles says. “Our attendance will hopefully have a real effect on the student body by having us become a better, more informative news source for HPU’s students.”

Nuckles says Chronicle members hope to attend future conventions in Louisville, Orlando and Chicago.
