HIGH POINT, N.C., Nov. 24, 2009 ? Dr. Kimberly Wear, associate professor of psychology at High Point University, recently presented two papers at the 50th Annual Meeting of the Psychonomic Society in Boston, Mass. The meeting, which takes place to provide the opportunity for scientific communication within the field of cognitive psychology, was held Nov. 19 through 22.
In her first presentation, Wear discussed her paper titled “Costs and benefits associated with repeated occurrences of a homograph.” Her second presentation was in relation to a paper, of which she was a co-author, titled “A test of the utility of the associative judgment task during language processing.”
Wear’s presentations focus on her research regarding the theoretical mechanisms underlying memory. She examines whether inhibition is necessary to explain the long-term consequences of selecting a particular meaning of a word that has several meanings and questions whether the unselected meanings are less available at a later time.
“This presentation and conference offer a great opportunity to share my research with others in the field as well as discover what others have found recently,” Wear says. “I look forward to collaborating with researchers from across the country.”
